The Certificate in Business provides the information, skills, and resources needed to function effectively in a business setting. The course work addresses core competencies including accounting, marketing, and management, as well as in-demand skills such as budgeting, business analysis, business process, and procurement.
The Certificate in Business is a strong complement to any undergraduate degree program in University College, emphasizing the applied value of a liberal arts education. The Certificate in Business may also be pursued on a stand-alone basis for individuals seeking professional development.

Undergraduate and graduate degree and certificate programs offered by University College are offered through Arts & Sciences at Washington University in St. Louis. Business-related programs in University College are not accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB International).

At University College, students can take courses without applying to a degree program. If you are interested in taking a class to get to know University College, to fulfill credits, for professional development, or to follow a passion, the non-degree option is for you. Learn more.
Non-degree students and students already admitted to a Bachelor of Science degree program in University College may apply for admission to the Certificate in Business program. There are no formal requirements for admission to undergraduate certificates. Students should speak with an academic advisor regarding their preparation for specific certificates or courses.
University College cannot sponsor an I-20 for any certificate program. International students are eligible to apply for a certificate program if they already hold a visa that permits part-time study. International students holding a B-2 or F-2 visa are only permitted to register for courses that are recreational or avocational.
University College is designed for students with adult responsibilities who may require part-time and flexible course schedules. Current high school students and recent graduates seeking a traditional WashU college experience should apply through the undergraduate admissions office: admissions.wustl.edu.
Admission decisions are made on a rolling basis and typically take four to six weeks. Applicants are encouraged to submit all materials by the following dates:
- SPRING 2021: DEC. 30, 2020
- SUMMER 2021: APRIL 15, 2021
- FALL 2021: JULY 15, 2021
