Military Benefits
Post 9/11 GI Bill (Yellow Ribbon) / Montgomery GI Bill / Reservist / Survivors & Dependents
University College provides assistance for veterans, active duty military personnel, dependents and survivors seeking educational benefits through the Veterans Administration. To register for courses please complete the following steps.
- Apply for benefits online through the Department of Veterans Affairs, by clicking here.
- Select your courses by clicking here and selecting the “Register” button at the top of the screen. For step-by-step directions on selecting your courses and payment method, click here.
- Provide University College with a copy of your “Certificate of Eligibility” that you received from the Department of Veterans Affairs. Students will be registered for the courses they selected if the following criteria are met.
- University College has received the Certificate of Eligibility.
- The benefit will cover outstanding tuition and mandatory fees.
- The benefit will be paid directly to Washington University.1
- Student is accepted to a degree or certificate program (if using Yellow Ribbon benefits).2
1 Students who receive benefits directly can defer payment to the end of the semester if they have been accepted to a degree or certificate program. Submit an Intent to Pay form with your Certificate of Eligibility. Otherwise, payment is required at the time of registration.
2 Students who have applied to a degree or certificate program can be certified for a maximum of 2 semesters, while their application is being processed.
University College does not certify veterans for advanced payment; they must first register for courses. Specific questions about eligibility for VA benefits should be directed to the Veterans Administration's tuition benefits website or telephone toll-free 1-888-442-4551.
University College participates in the Yellow Ribbon GI Education Enhancement Program, established in 2008. Those that qualify for the Yellow Ribbon benefits can attend University College fulltime with no out-of-pocket expenses for tuition and mandatory fees. Courses taken outside of University Colege or Arts and Sciences require additional approvals.
