Admission Requirements

While most University College courses are open to any qualified student, a student who wants to earn a degree must be admitted to University College as a degree candidate.

Admission requirements for the Bachelor of Science Degree include:

  • a high school diploma
  • at least 12 units of transferable college-level course work with a minimum GPA of 2.7 taken at another accredited institution; or at least 12 units of course work taken at University College with a minimum GPA of 2.7.
  • a completed University College Application for Admission form
  • a $35 application fee (non-refundable)
  • an essay describing your educational goals
  • official transcripts of all previous college work
  • (If you have completed fewer than 15 college credits, please provide your high school transcript and SAT or ACT scores.)
  • If you are applying for admission to the Communications & Journalism degree program, you must submit a sample of written work of approximately 500 words (separate from the admission essay) with your application.
  • If you are applying for admission to the Creative Writing Certificate, you must submit a letter of recommendation.

We strongly recommend that all students seeking admission to University College meet with an academic adviser to discuss their educational interests and goals, transfer credit, distribution requirements, student services, and other issues.

Admission to the Associate's Degree program requires:

  • at least 6 units of University College course work with minimum 2.7 GPA, or at least 6 units of acceptable transfer credit with minimum 2.7 GPA.
  • be a high school graduate

To apply for admission, please submit the following:

  • a completed University College Application for Admission form
  • a $35 application fee (non-refundable)

  • official transcripts of all previous college work
  • (If you have completed fewer than 15 college credits, please provide your high school transcript and SAT or ACT scores.)
