The Graduate Certificate in Clinical Research Management is designed primarily for experienced professionals who already hold an advanced degree in a related health care field or in business, and who need a targeted cluster of courses in clinical research management for career enhancement. Candidates for the graduate certificate aspire toward leadership positions in academic research centers or related private sector organizations, especially the pharmaceutical industry.

The Graduate Certificate in Clinical Research Management is awarded by University College, the evening and continuing education division of Arts & Sciences. The program is offered in collaboration with the Washington University School of Medicine, and more specifically, the Center for Applied Research Sciences and the Institute of Clinical & Translational Sciences.

Requirements

The 21-unit certificate program consists of the following required courses:

  • Fundamentals of Clinical Research Management
  • Medical Writing for Clinical Research
  • Drug and Device Development
  • Trends in Health Care Policy
  • Compliance, Legal, and Regulatory Issues
  • Designing Outcomes of Clinical Research
  • Epidemiology Policies and Procedures
  • All courses must be completed with a minimum overall GPA of 3.0.
    • All courses must be taken at Washington University.
    • Courses taken toward the Certificate in Clinical Research Management also may count toward the Master of Science in Clinical Research Management.

    Admission Requirements and Procedures

    The Graduate Certificate in Clinical Research Management is open to qualified applicants with a baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution and a minimum overall grade point average of 3.0. Applicants must submit the following materials:
    • a completed Application for Graduate Admission including the required essay describing the role of the program in the applicant's career.
    • a $35 non-refundable application fee.
    • official transcripts of all previous undergraduate and graduate work and degrees granted.
    • three letters of reference.

    Prospective students are urged to discuss admission and tentative course schedules, including prerequisite courses, with the program coordinator. Admission Deadlines: July 15 for Fall; October 15 for Spring; March 15 for Summer. University College reviews applications on a rolling basis. Qualified students with University College authorization may take up to six units of Clinical Research Management graduate-level course work on a non-degree basis. To do so, complete and submit the Graduate Unclassified Study Program Application form.
