Online Teaching Courses
University College is pleased to offer two online teaching courses designed for faculty who have been approved to create a new online course. Both courses are taught asynchronously via Blackboard. There are no required “live” sessions and all participation takes place 100% online within weekly deadlines.
Enrolled faculty should be willing to commit approximately five hours per week for the duration of each course. Because the courses are asynchronous, those participation hours can take place at any time of the day or night within each course unit. In order to participate, faculty need to log in three to five times per week in order to submit assignments and interact with other faculty members on the discussion board.
Introduction to Online Teaching (syllabus): Online Teaching and Learning Specialist, Amanda Carey, guides instructors through the process of converting an on-ground course into an online course or creating a brand new course from scratch. Best practices for online teaching, Blackboard basics, and online tools will be covered in this asynchronous 4-week course. The course is also designed to foster a community of online instructors, as well as provide individual feedback to instructors having little or no experience teaching online/hybrid courses.
Advanced Online Teaching: Experienced instructors (those having taught online/hybrid courses for at least one year) may prefer to register for this more condensed version of the Introduction to Online Teaching course taught by Online Teaching and Learning Specialist Amanda Carey. Over the course of two weeks, instructors will have the opportunity to hone their technological and pedagogical skills, exchange ideas with fellow online instructors, and consider their courses through the lens of current best practices for online teaching. Some prior experience with Blackboard required.
Registration:Please contact Amanda Carey to enroll or to discuss which course is right for you.
