BJC Center for Lifelong Learning in Partnership with Washington University

In Spring 2009, BJC employees will be able to take Washington University courses to enhance or update their professional skills and earn college credits for career planning. In order to use the BJC tuition benefit, your supervisor must approve your course choice.

To register for courses: Registration is online, quick, and easy. Simply visit the University College Web site, ucollege.wustl.edu, click on "Courses & Registration," then on "Browse Current Courses By. . ." and select your criteria. When registering, make sure to select "Employer Assistance" as the method of payment. As a reminder, tuition for BJC employees will be deferred until the end of the semester. Click here for the printable BJC tuition reimbursement form which you are required to complete in order for you to receive tuition reimbursement, along with the printable Intent to Pay form that must be completed and returned to us. Your BJC contact for questions is Gary Stocker, 314-996-7678.

Washington University ID cards, passwords, E-mail accounts: BJC employees, like all other Washington University students, will need these to gain access to Washington University facilities, online resources, grades, course evaluations, and E-mail accounts. To get an ID card, you must visit the Office of Student Records, in the Women's Building on the main campus, and bring another photo ID card. All Washington University students should carry their WU Student ID Card whenever they are on campus or using a campus shuttle bus and must show it upon request. During periods of heightened security, access to the campus may be limited to those with a current valid WU identification card. Access to specific buildings and events on campus at various times may be similarly restricted. Your ID card is also your library card. There is no charge for a new card or to replace (exchange) a damaged card. There is a $20 fee to replace a lost card. The Office of Student Records is located on the Danforth (formerly Hilltop) Campus in the Women's Building, Room 50 (lower level). Regular office hours are Monday-Friday 8:30 am - 5:00 pm. Telephone (314) 935-5959 with any questions.

About passwords: If you are a new student at University College you will receive your UC password by postal mail after you register online. It will allow you access to online resources such as a list of courses you are enrolled in. However, you are not required to wait for this password to be mailed to you; you may also stop by in person at the University College Office in January Hall, Room 20. Bring your student ID and a new password can be set for you to use immediately. Office hours are 8:30 a.m. - 7:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday; and 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Friday.

About E-mail accounts: You will automatically receive a Washington University E-mail account when you register for courses. This will remain your account as long as you are an active student. If you are not enrolled in a degree program, you may obtain an E-mail account for the semester in which you are enrolled. The Arts & Sciences Computing Center is in charge of E-mail accounts for University College students. If you lose or forget your E-mail name or password (it is different from your UC password), contact the Arts & Sciences Computing Center Lab at (314) 935-8077.

Textbooks: BJC students can purchase books directly through the Washington University bookstore in one of three ways: 1. Order and prepay online at the bookstore Web site, and request that the bookstore ship textbooks directly to you; 2. Order and prepay online and request that the bookstore hold the texts for pickup at the bookstore, thereby avoiding a shipping charge. 3. Go to the bookstore on campus (in the Mallinckrodt Center), and purchase the books.

BJC HealthCare Tuition Reimbursement: Full time BJC HealthCare employees are eligible for Plan A tuition reimbursement up to $4,500 annually for approved courses and learning institutions. Employees need to contact their Employee Service Coordinator or their Tuition Coordinator and ask for two forms. The first is the tuition agreement and the second is the tuition application. Each is needed to get your tuition reimbursement paperwork on file.

Tuition Payment: When registering for a course, choose the "Employer Assistance" payment method. You'll simply need to submit some paperwork to University College: the printable BJC tuition reimbursement form which you are required to complete in order for you to receive tuition reimbursement, along with the printable Intent to Pay form that must be completed and returned to us. Tuition for BJC employees will be deferred until the end of the semester. Your BJC contact for questions is Gary Stocker, 314-996-7678.

Parking at Washington University: BJC employees/students must purchase daily tags or use parking meters if you wish to use the Washington University library or other facilities during the day. If you come to the campus in the evenings, "Evening Yellow" permits good for one year are available for $100. This permit is valid in yellow zones (these parking zones are marked with signs) from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 a.m. and in a few red zones (unless marked by 24-hour designation signage) between 5:30 p.m. and 7:00 a.m. The Evening Yellow Permit is also valid between 7:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. on weekends and official University holidays. "Short-term Daily" permits are available for $5 per day. This permit is valid in yellow zones anytime.
