Certificate in Human Resources Management
This certificate offered through University College provides a range of courses in the major responsibilities and challenges of human resources to prepare students to work effectively in the field. Originally designed for Washington University master's students and as a complement to the curricula in the schools of business, engineering, and social work, the certificate is also available to the general public.
Admission
Admission to the program is on a selective basis. Applicants must have a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.

If you are admitted, before your last semester, you must submit an Intent to Graduate with a Graduate Certificate Form.
Certificate Requirements
The Certificate in Human Resources Management is a 15-unit program composed of four required courses and one elective. Required courses are:
1. Organizational Behavior and Administration (U87 520) 3 units. A survey course focusing on the individual, group, organizational and environmental factors relevant to understanding and managing behavior in complex organizations.
2. Human Resources Management (U87 531) 3 units. A comprehensive overview of human resources, with particular attention to selection, performance management, training, wage and salary administration, career development, human resources planning, and federal regulations.
3. Compensation Management (U87 470) 3 units. Topics include measures of performance and employment market issues; skill-building; and the design of money and benefits compensation packages to improve employee quality and productivity.
4. Legal Aspects of Human Resources Management (U87 571) 3 units. The legal framework for human resources, with particular attention to issues related to employment, personnel practices, wages and salary, benefits, family and medical leave, disabilities, terminations, and unions.
Students will also choose 3 units of elective course work from the offerings in the University College Masters of Human Resources Management Program.
Credits: A minimum of 9 credits toward the Human Resources Certificate must be taken in University College. Washington University master's students in the schools of business, engineering, and social work may apply toward the certificate up to 6 relevant credits in the HR field from their home school, subject to the approval of a University College graduate advisor.
With permission, students may enroll in HRM classes before they are officially admitted to the certificate program. To do so, fill out and submit this form.

- A completed Application for Graduate Admission form, including an essay of 300 to 400 words describing their interest in and qualifications for the program;
- A completed Graduate School of Arts and Sciences application form
- A nonrefundable $35 application fee;
- Official transcripts of all previous college work (undergraduate and, if applicable, graduate);
- At least two academic or corporate letters of recommendation;
- Results of the Miller Analogies Test or the Graduate Record Exam.
