Certificate in Business
The Certificate in Business (30 credit units) provides information, skills, and resources to help business managers become more effective organizational leaders. The course work, drawn from both Business and Arts & Sciences, addresses core competencies, diverse perspectives, and multiple contexts required for successful business management in the following areas:

-Communication
-Leadership and Supervision
-Strategic Planning
-Ethics
-Accounting, Finance, and Statistical Analysis
-Marketing
-Legal Issues
-International Business, Diversity, and Global Economics
The Certificate in Business is a strong complement to any undergraduate degree program in University College, emphasizing the applied value of a liberal arts education. The Certificate in Business may also be pursued on a stand-alone basis for individuals already holding a degree but seeking professional development in a business setting.
Requirements
The 30-unit Certificate consists of the following required courses:
In order to be considered for admission to the Business Certificate Program you must have already completed at least one college-level English composition course, one course in microeconomics, and one course in macroeconomics, each with a grade of B or better.
Non-degree students as well as students already admitted to a Bachelor of Science degree program in University College may apply for admission to the Certificate in Business Program.
To apply for admission to the Certificate in Business Program, the following items must be submitted with your Application for Admission
1. Certificate in Business Admission Application Supplement.
2. Updated resume.
3. Statement of Academic and Professional Objectives: a 300-word statement summarizing how your professional and educational goals are consistent with the objectives of the Certificate in Business.

- Professional Writing, Speaking, and Presentation (U11 215)
- Financial and Managerial Accounting (U44 263)
- Law of Business I (U44 251)
- Business Organization and Administration (U44 120) or Introduction to Industrial and Organizational Psychology (U09 214)
- Leadership for Organizational Success (U44 305) or Supervisory Management (U44 220)
- Strategic Planning and Policy (U44 230) or Strategic Planning for Communications Professionals (U48 362)
- Marketing Concepts (U44 270) or Introduction to Marketing (U48 258) or Market Research and Communications Strategies (U48 305)
- International Management: Leadership Across Cultures (U44 330) or any other 3-credit International Studies course authorized by University College
- Business Ethics (U22 234) or Problems in Philosophy (U22 120) or Present Moral Problems (U22 131), or Business, Government, and Society (U25 333), or any other 3-credit Ethics course authorized by University College.
- Economic Statistics (U07 231) or any other Statistics course authorized by University College.
- All courses must be completed with a minimum overall GPA of 3.0.
- A maximum of six units of transfer credit for required courses may be applied to the Certificate in Business. All other required courses must be taken at Washington University.
- Courses taken toward a University College undergraduate certificate program may be applied to a University College bachelor of science degree, as distribution, general elective, or major elective courses. A maximum of 6 units of course work from a University College undergraduate certificate may be used as core major courses in a University College bachelor of science degree.
- The total number of business courses in a Bachelor of Science program in University College, including courses applied to the Certificate in Business, may not exceed 25 percent of the total number of courses required for the Bachelor of Science degree.
